    A couple questions
    First:

I think I might've gotten snapped by one of those cameras on Jackson, or it was the guy next to me, I'm not sure. But, I was only going a couple miles over and have only had one other ticket in 6 years. I know in VA that sometimes if you show up for the court date the judge will throw it out if you have few or no previous offenses. Is it worth it to go through that down here or should I just pay the ticket?

    Second:

I'm looking for housing, hopefully around the Uptown area. I'm 22, female, employed and potentially come with a cat. I'm quiet and respectful of others and love to cook. Any of y'all looking for a roommate or have any suggestions?

How the Goths Stole Christmas IV - in one week
While the flood waters rise on Oak Street and bodies, debris and submerged cars begin to float past the doorway of Z'Otz, we take a moment to contemplate the festivities of next weekend.

Shadow Gallery's ultra-spectacular third anniversary party will be next Saturday at our enormous, lovely new home, Maison Musique. Leah Kahn, newly returned to the city after her tour of Europe and the Mediterranean, will put on a display of fire and dance to keep the winter outside. At 1 a.m. we will pause while you, dear readers, dance the Mamuschka, and of course throughout the night we will provide the very creepiest and most danceworthy gothic and industrial music to drive away the crass commercialism and miserable sanctimony of the season. Our special guest DJ will be Eugene Oubliette, currently of Katamari Pharmacy and Action Action Reaction, and of the local goth-industrial scene since the long-ago speakeasy days of the Convent.

The flyer and some images of the new venue (partly taken during The Local Skank's performance last night) lie below the cut.

6" x 6" original fleur de lis paintings
In the spirit of this season, I made a handful of small 6" x 6" original Fleur de lis/Saints logo paintings I'm going to sell for $42 (in honor of this 42nd season and our new pal Sharper). They're insanely textured and vibrant oil on canvas.

You can see 'em in my etsy store, http://www.etsy.com/shop/arthursimone?section_id=6597686

    Treme
Today I put down my deposit on an apartment in Treme, juuuuuust in from I-10. I'm excited about moving back to the New Orleans area (this summer I lived out in St. Bernard parish, and my new job is in Arabi) and life in Treme. Is anyone a current or former resident of Treme? Any tips or favorite places to check out? Blogs by Treme residents? In case my username doesn't make it obvious, I'm from the Mississippi Gulf Coast but I've lived all over the country, and overseas in Istanbul.

EDIT: Y'all, I appreciate the concerns for my safety, but I have neither the money or the means to move somewhere else. I feel fortunate I was able to find this place so I can get away from my abusive family. At least in the Treme if I'm murdered it'll be by an anonymous crackhead, rather than one I'm related to. I ask that y'all help me make the best of the situation I'm in and the area I'm moving to. I'd like to get involved in life in the Treme, make some friends, try to enjoy life a little.

Last Stop Shop - Thursday December 17
Finish up your holiday shopping list – and celebrate doing so! -- with the New Orleans Craft Mafia at our Last Stop Shop at the Big Top Holiday Market and Party, Thursday, December 17th from 6pm – 10pm.

Get all your last-minute gifts from your favorite local artists and crafters, who’ll be offering a wide assortment of one-of-a-kind, handmade items made right here in New Orleans.

The Thursday evening event is not just a holiday sale – it’s definitely a party as well. Taking place in the festive Big Top Gallery – which, we’ll point out, has a fully stocked cash bar – there will be snacks, holiday music, and a reprise of our Handmade Holiday Ornament + Tree Raffle, with the proceeds benefiting the Recycle For the Arts program.

Free parking at Fleet Tire across the street from the gallery makes this an easy in-out for those of you on a tight schedule, though we hope you’ll grab a drink and stay a while!

    Notification System
**FINAL EDIT Thu Dec 10 02:15:47 UTC 2009**

So there is the final update... Over the past day we have processed around 11 million jobs out of the 12 million that were in queue at that time. Please bear in mind that over this past day, more jobs for notifications are also created. So while the queue has been dropping, we are still not fully caught up at this point, due to backlog and new jobs. We have roughly 3 million jobs still pending that involve the notification system in some manner. We had hoped we could have fully cleared the queue in a day, but unfortunately we can't clear it too quickly, since we need the rest of the site to operate normally. From our current perspective on the amount of jobs that are left in queue, and how many it has processed thus far, we believe it will take around another 8 - 12 hours to process everything.

And finally some answers to some questions:

    Photo Exhibit at Main Library
    http://www.gracebeforedying.org/
Main Library: 219 Loyola Ave., NOla 70112

Lori Waselchuk’s traveling photo exhibition -- Grace Before Dying -- will be shown at the New Orleans Public Library December 3 – 17, 2009.
Grace Before Dying is an award-winning photo essay that chronicles the Louisiana State Penitentiary’s Hospice Program. The exhibition launched April 3, 2009 at Angola Prison and has traveled to correctional facilities as well as museums and conferences in Louisiana and Mississpi.

Grace Before Dying tells the story of a nationally recognized prison hospice program in which the hospice volunteers and the patients are serving long-term prison sentences. The program was created in 1998 at the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola. Officials say that the program has helped to transform one of the most violent prisons in the South into one of the least violent maximum-security institutions in the United States.
